CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Point Park men's soccer team fell 3-0 to the University of Charleston in a Mountain East Conference matchup at the Welch Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Charleston found the back of the net in the 43
rd minute as Denys Verbinskyi put the Golden Eagles on the board first before going into the half.
The Golden Eagles put up two more goals in the second half while holding the Pioneers scoreless to secure the 3-0 shutout.
Point Park got off five shots in the matchup with three coming on goal. Charleston outshot the Pioneers 23-5 while also holding a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks over the Pioneers.
In goal,
Gregorio Capponi went the full 90 minutes for Point Park recording three saves. Capponi now sports a 2-3 record in a Pioneer uniform to begin the 2025 season.
With the loss, Point Park falls to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Mountain East Conference play. The Pioneers will be back on the road on Wednesday as Point Park travels to West Liberty for a match against the Hilltoppers. Kickoff for the conference matchup is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
