PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University's Anna Shields has run two races this year, and she now has two NAIA national runner of the week honors. Shields on Wednesday was named the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Runner of the Week for Sept. 4-10, the second straight week she has won the award to start the year.

Shields, a junior from Torrington, Conn., won the award once again after winning first place at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational Sept. 9. She did so with a time of 17:47, which was a course record. It was her second first-place finish in as many weeks and her second course record.

In the first week of the year, Shields won at the NCAA Division II Walsh Invitational. That was with a time of 17:19, a school record and tied for the top time in the NAIA this year.

She has now earned a total of six NAIA national runner of the week honors since the start of last year. Two each have come in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. After the week off, Shields and the Pioneers compete next Sept. 23 at the Lock Haven University Open.
