FLORENCE, Ky. -- Point Park University men's golf student-athletes earned academic honors from the conference and national levels led by senior Steven Bender gaining accolades on both fronts. The Pioneers led the conference this year with the most number of academic honorees.
Bender was named to the NAIA-Daktronics Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete team and was joined by three teammates on the River States Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team. Bender has a 3.58 grade-point average in business management.
Also on the RSC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete team along with Bender are sophomores Gage Basiletti with a 3.33 GPA in economics and finance, Jared Bender with a 3.91 GPA in sports, arts and entertainment management and Nick Finoli with a 3.78 GPA in economics and finance.
With four awardees on the RSC academic list, the Pioneers led the conference this year in academic awardees. There were 15 total players named to the team this year.
To be eligible for the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete award, student-athletes must be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. The RSC Scholar-Athlete Team is for student-athletes who compete in an RSC sport with a GPA above 3.25.
